The British architect, Mr. Swinton Jacob was entrusted with the job of designing the Lalgarh Palace and he really did his job in the most efficient manner. Within the premises of the fort lie several huge halls, spacious lounges, cupolas (dome like structure) small pavilions and a grand library which is the fourth largest library in the world. Shri Sadul is the name given to its museum. The notable things in the buildings of the Lalgarh Palace are grand pillars, fire places, Italian colonnades (a structure composed of columns placed at regular intervals) and eye-catching lattice and filigree (delicate and intricate ornamental work made from gold, silver, or other fine twisted wire) work.
