Lalgarh Palace

Known for its Rajput, Mughal and European architectural style, Lalgarh Palace is located in the beautiful Bikaner. The foundation of the Lalgarh Fort was laid by Maharaja Ganga Singh in 1902 and the construction was completed in 1926. Carved out in red sandstone, this Palace was a tribute from the Maharaja to his father Maharaja Lall Singh. A section of the castle is still inhabited by the royal family. A part has been converted into a heritage hotel which is owned by Welcome Group Of Hotels.

The British architect, Mr. Swinton Jacob was entrusted with the job of designing the Lalgarh Palace and he really did his job in the most efficient manner. Within the premises of the fort lie several huge halls, spacious lounges, cupolas (dome like structure) small pavilions and a grand library which is the fourth largest library in the world. Shri Sadul is the name given to its museum.

The notable things in the buildings of the Lalgarh Palace are grand pillars, fire places, Italian colonnades (a structure composed of columns placed at regular intervals) and eye-catching lattice and filigree (delicate and intricate ornamental work made from gold, silver, or other fine twisted wire) work.
