Akal Wood Fossil

Sea shells on the desert land of Jaisalmer!Sounds next to impossible, but archaeological records confirm this statement. Millions of years ago Jaisalmer got immersed into the ocean. The wood fossils present in the Akal Wood Fossil Park are a result of the fossilization of the trees that once occupied this area millions of years ago. Akal Wood Fossil Park is located 15 m from the Golden City, Jaisalmer. Spreading over an area of 21 hectare, today's desert was once the fertile land dotted with innumerable non flowering trees.

Scattered randomly, the fossilized wood logs take you to the history of the place. Amongst all ten of the wood logs are well exposed. Hold your breath when you see the largest fossilized wood log which is 7 m in length and 1.5 m in height. The area is also marked with numerous tree trunks of different sizes.
