Havelis in Jaisalmer

Haveli, JaisalmerJaisalmer the Golden City of Rajasthan is truly rich and this fact is clearly reflected in the stunning havelis (mansions) of the city which are known for their beauty and luxury far and wide. During the golden period of the bygone era, Havelis not only served as a comfortable residence for the noble families but were also a symbol of status. Although all the havelis in Jaisalmer have their own charm but the ones which attract tourists from across the world are Patwaji Ki Haveli, Salim Singji Ki Haveli and Nathmalji Ki Haveli.

Patwaji Ki Haveli

Rich traders (belonging to Jaisalmer) called Patwas were the proud owners of this magnificent haveli. They used to deal in dresses embroidered with gold and silver threads. This haveli is often called the Taj Mahal Of Jaisalmer because of its meticulously carved exclusive stone work, fabulous paintings and flawless maintenance. It is a five-storied establishment and was the first and the largest private haveli of India built in 1805. The complex of the haveli is divided into 3 portions. Out of the three, one is owned by the Archaeological Survey of India, one by a royal family and the remaining is dotted with art and craft shops which are well stocked with traditional Rajasthani handicrafts.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli

The arresting Salim Singh Ki Haveli was built in 1815 by the honorable Salim Singh, the then Prime Minister of the kingdom. The highlight of the haveli is its delicately carved brackets in the forms of peacocks. The haveli has 38 balconies each exhibiting a different style. Come and compare them all.

Nathmalji Ki Haveli

Standing gracefully, Nathmalji Ki Haveli is famous for its distinctive architecture. It was built in the 19th century by Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. It was uniquely designed by the two creative brothers named Hathi and Lulu. At its entrance you will be received with a warm welcome by two elegantly carved elephant statues. Height of creativity is clearly visible in the paintings on its walls, ceilings and huge pillars.

Do not give a miss to these architectural marvels of Jaisalmer else your tour to Jaisalmer will remain incomplete.
