Jaisalmer Fort

Bold and the Beautiful may be one of the serials with maximum TRPs. in U.S but here it refers to the great Jaisalmer Fort which is one of the largest desert forts in the world. Its foundation was laid by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD. It is also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort as it sprawls over an endless stretch of golden-colored sand which glistens like gold when Sun rays fall on it. It seems as if the fort has emerged from the sand itself.

The beauty of the Jaisalmer Fort entices tourists from far and wide. The fort was a witness to several battles which were fought to establish supremacy.

The fort was a great source of inspiration for a celebrated Indian film director Satyajit Ray who not only wrote a detective novel based on the fort but also made a film titled Sonar Kella.

Fortified by three layers of walls, the Jaisalmer Fort boasts of 99 bastions. The architecture of the fort belongs to the medieval era and the interiors reflect a great deal of richness.

The main highlights inside the fort are: Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain temples (built in 12th and 15th centuries), Laxminath temple, 4 massive gateways and the Merchant Havelis.
