City Palace, City Museum

City Palace, City Museum, UdaipurUdaipur is famous for its stunning palaces and the City Palace is a landmark of this city. The palace overlooks beautiful Lake Pichola. The foundation of the palace was laid by Maharana Uday Singh in 1559 A.D. Over the years the subsequent rulers added new apartments to this palace. The main gate of the City Palace is called Tripolia as it is triple-arched. It was built in 1725. Although a series of new additions were made to the palace but still it maintains its uniformity.


The City Palace complex houses several courtyards, corridors, terraces, gardens and apartments whose beauty and richness are incredible. If you come here do not miss any of them. Stroll in the balconies of the palace and reward yourself with the fantastic views of Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir which are situated nearby.


The City Palace complex has Suraj Gokhada where the Maharana would extend some encouraging words for people facing difficult times. The Mor Chawk is the place dedicated to vivid work in the form of peacock as its walls are adorned with amazing decoration made of glass.


Bhim Vilas in the palace is full of paintings depicting Lord Krishna.


Other several palaces within the City Palace are Dilkhush Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal and Krishna Vilas.


The heavenly City Palace also houses a museum called City Museum where a diverse array of artefacts belonging to the royal past are on display such as protective gear, weapons including the lethal two-pronged sword, miniature paintings, high-quality cotton, silken brocade, muslin and necklaces, belts, rings, bracelets and anklets belonging to the royal ladies.
