Elephant Festival

Elephant Festival, jaipurClear from the name itself, the Elephant Festival of Jaipur is dedicated to the celebration of the elephant events. What a great concept! It is an important festival on the cultural calendar of Rajasthan. And why not, as the giant but meek creature is associated with royalty. Celebrated during the month of Phagun (March) on the evening of Holi (Festival of colors), the festival is packed with fun and enjoyment. It is held in the huge ground named Chaugan.

The sight of 'dressed to kill' elephants marching elegantly in the huge ground packed with spectators simply takes you to the bygone era of Maharajas. Beside elephants, camels and horses are the other participants. The thrilling races of the groomed elephants, royal game polo played by mounting on the decorated elephants heightens the pleasure of the tourists. The events are coupled with majestic sound of trumpets which adds to the beauty of the festival.

Beauty Pageant is one of the highlights of the Elephant festival and the proud participants are the female elephants who come there with their mahouts in their best attires and jewelry. The winner is awarded a grand prize.

You can mount on these decked up elephants and play Holi with people there. It mixes pleasure with royalty. Sounds great!
