Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort, jaipurStanding erect on the edge of Aravalli Hills, Narangarh Fort was built by Sawai Raja Jai Singh in the year 1734. Don't get frightened if you happen to hear a strange story of spirit attached to the fort. It is said that once upon a time, the fort was a home to the spirit of a prince named Nahar who several times obstructed the construction work of the fort. After ardent prayers were offered to him, he agreed to leave only if the fort was named after him.

Falling under the defense ring of the city, Nahargarh Fort was constructed to protect Amber, the then capital of the rulers of Jaipur. Later the successive rulers made their contribution by making new additions to the fort. Today the old structures are not in a great condition but are still attractive for sightseeing.

Occupying an important place in the history of Rajasthan, the fort gives a picturesque view of the Pink City. It is also known as the Tiger Fort. Madhavendra Bhavan is an important apartment of the fort which was especially built by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II for his adorable nine queens. All the suites were alike and beautifully decorated with frescoes.

While exploring the fort if your stomach starts growling, straight away head to Durg cafeteria which is located just above the entrance. Munch on the tasty refreshments here and continue with your tour.
