Khimsar

Khimsar is a small desert town which comes under the Nagaur District. It is located between Bikaner and Jodhpur. This rustic town gives a real picture of the life in a desert.

The Khimsar Fort is a magnificent structure located on the edge of the Thar Desert. It was built by Rao Karamsi in the 16th century and initially served as an establishment exclusively for military purposes. Later in the 18th century the fort became the residence of the royal family. New additions were made to the fort in the 18th century. The descendants of the Rao Karamsi still reside in the fort. The palace within the Khimsar Fort is extremely beautiful. Its walls are painted in bright colors and embellished with rare paintings. Its courtyards and gardens are equally enchanting.

If you happen to travel to Khimsar during the festive season when Nagaur Fair is held (January-February), then you must visit the fair as it is the second largest cattle fair of Rajasthan. It is held in Nagaur which is 43 km away from Khimsar.
