Dilwara Temples

Dilwara Temples Mount AbuMount Abu is not only a famous hill station in Rajasthan but also an important Pilgrimage center for Jains. The landscape of Mount Abu is blessed with the Dilwara temples which are renowned the world over for their stunning architecture. Mount Abu has many attractions which are worth a visit but the most famous are the Dilwara Temples. The history of these temples dates back to the 11th and the 13th century. They were exquisitely carved out in marble and their beauty is simply unparalleled.

Within the Dilwara Temples you can see several beautiful idols of Jain saints. The oldest amongst all is the Vimal Vasahi temple built by Vimal Shah, Minister of Solanki ruler of Gujarat in 1031 A.D. It is devoted to Adinath, the first of the Jain tirthankaras. This temple is famous for its elegantly carved pillars depicting women dancing away to glory. The striking feature of the architect of this temple is a marble pendant in the dome of the porch. It looks like a lotus flower.

Some of the Dilwara Jain Temples are Vimal Vasahi temple, Khartar Vasahi temple, Mahaveer Swamiji temple and Luna Vasahi temple.
