Pushkar Fair

Pushkar Fair, RajasthamPushkar Fair is the largest cattle fair of the world which is hosted in the holy city Pushkar, Rajasthan. It is held in the month of November and is a crowd puller. If you are traveling to Rajasthan, then you must not miss Pushkar as it is considered the abode of Brahma, the creator of the world. It is the only city in the world which houses a temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. It is held in high esteem by Hindus and countless pilgrims flock to holy Pushkar Lake to wash away their bad karma in its holy water.

Kartik Purnima is considered to be the most auspicious day for taking a dip in the lake's waters.

People from India and abroad come to this five day long fair for commercial, religious and entertainment purposes. Camel trade is the biggest highlight of the fair. You can even find people buying jewelry for their cattle. The animas are beautifully decorated in bright colored attire and flowers.

Participation in the Pushkar fair is the best way to get acquainted with Rajasthani culture. Rajasthani women dressed in colorful swirling ghagras (skirt), beautiful cholis (top) and chunaris with mirror work and sporting silver jewelry from head to toe add more color and vibrancy to the fair. Dig on the traditional Rajasthani food to treat yourself. During the festive season the desert gets transformed into a colorful paradise. Stalls exhibiting Rajasthani handicrafts, brassware, dresses, blue pottery, marble statues and silver jewelry are highly enticing.

The several competitions held here are marked by ample amount of excitement. We often watch Miss India, Miss World and many such beauty contests but what about the contest of the 'Most Beautiful Camel'. Well, Pushkar Fair serves as the venue for this contest. Camel races and parades are interesting sights. Dance and music performances by the local artists set the stage on fire.
