History Of Rajasthan

History Of RajasthanRajasthan the land of contrasts has an equally rich history as the land itself. Like the other Indian states, Rajasthan too has witnessed a glorious past. Magnificent palaces and havelis and huge forts are a testimony to that era when fragmented Rajasthan was ruled by great rulers. Studded with gold and diamonds these palaces also show the inclination of the Maharajas towards a luxurious life. They spent stupendously on constructing such marvelous pieces of architecture. The unsurpassed citadels of Rajasthan clearly speak volumes about the importance the Maharajas gave to the artists. Undoubtedly Rajasthan is known as the world's richest place for art and craft.

The eventful history of Rajasthan dates back to about 5000 years. It was once the arid land with conspicuous desert for miles and miles. Centuries later with the commencement of civilization in other parts of the word, Rajasthan also set out on its journey of civilization. The main factor for the growth of civilization in Rajasthan was the link between Europe and Asia for trade. And slowly the desert started transforming into human settlement areas. Archaeological evidence indicates that the history of this state has a deep relation with Harrapan culture. The Bhil and the Mina tribes were the first inhabitants of Rajasthan.

In 2000 BC, Aryans arrived and ruled. When they went into decline the throne was taken by Maurya dynasty that ruled till 400AD. Ashoka was the well known emperor of this dynasty and is remembered till date for his conversion to Buddhism after he realized the true essence of being a human being.

Rajasthan saw the rise and fall of many rulers. Most talked about among them were Rajputs who ruled from the 6th and the 7th centuries onward. They played a crucial role in the history of Rajasthan. The battle amongst Rajputs for establishing their rule gave birth to many Rajput kingdoms. Some of these were later conquered by the Mughals. The Mughals were defeated by Marathas and therefore their rule came to an end in 1707 AD.

Now was the turn of Marathas. It was a period that saw maximum misrule as the Marathas were not upright in their principles. The rule of Marathas was brought to an end by the British.

Finally after India gained its independence in 1947, the princely states of Rajasthan were combined together to form one single state called Rajasthan. Jaipur, the Pink City is the capital of this State. Rajasthan plays a pivotal role in the present day culture of India also. Incredible diversity in traditions and customs, people, dialects, music, dance, cuisine, palaces, monuments and museums make it one of the most famed destinations of Incredible India.
